“Edward trained my very first Cheltenham Festival winner, Mister Donovan, who won the 2m 5f novice hurdle (now the Nepturne Hurdle). It’s fair to say if you want to get into the winner’s enclosure at Cheltenham, Edward is one of the best trainers around to take you there”
JP McManus / Owner
Since 1972, Edward O’Grady has been training winning racehorses from his world-class private facilities in County Tipperary. Champion trainer on multiple occasions, Edward’s victories throughout his career, in terms of owners and races, as well as horses, serves as an encyclopaedia of the racing game in the British Isles in modern times.
From JP McManus to Robert Sangster, from the Duke of Bedford to his Excellency the President of Ireland, more than 300 different registered owners have trusted Edward to achieve maximum potential from their horses.
With over 1500 winners both on the track and at point-to-points, Edward has won an enviable array of blue-ribbon races including the Irish Grand National, the Tingle Creek, the Whitbread Gold Cup, the Irish Champion Hurdle, the Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase, the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, the Galway Plate and Hurdle plus many more.
For all of his big wins, nowhere has Edward been more successful than at the home of National Hunt racing, Cheltenham. In his career to date, Edward has had 24 winners at the track, including 18 at the Festival. Victories include the Champion Bumper, the Supreme and SunAlliance Novice Hurdles, the Triumph Hurdle and the World Hurdle, together with famous chases such as the Arkle, the Kim Muir and the “Four Mile”.
After more than 40 years at the top of his profession, Edward’s hunger to train the best horses and win the biggest races continues unabated.
